Stanley Bonewitz: Catching Up With A Basketball Legend
By Mark McKee

Texas high school basketball has produced some legendary talent over the years: Ira Terrell, Eddie Owens, Shaquille O’Neal, Larry Johnson and Rashard Lewis. But none have captured the average fan more than Stanley Bonewitz of East Central in San Antonio.

Even to this day he is still one of the most talked about players to ever grace the Drum in Austin. His exploits on the court have taken on legendary proportions. Anybody who saw Bonewitz play will never forget his style and flair for the game. He played the glamour position of point guard with the ball in his hands on the fast break as well as shooting a three pointer.  The position requires split second decisions made at full speed. Few were able to do it any better than Bonewitz.

Texas has produced a plethora of talented point guards who have gone on to great success at the college and pro levels including T.J. Ford,  Deron Williams, Mookie Blaylock,  D.J. Augustine, Micheal Williams and going all the way back to Rob Williams of Houston Milby. Bonewitz ranks right up there with the best the state has seen.

When coaches reminisce about the greats that they have seen at the position, one name always comes up: Stanley Bonewitz. As Stan said himself with a laugh, “Every year that goes by I get better.”  The amazing aspect of Bonewitz’s play was not so much the fact that he had unreal numbers and a great deal of success but rather the speed and skill he performed at under extreme pressure.

Our Audience:
As the TABC’s official publication, Tex Preps Basketball Magazine serves the 4,000+ Texas high school boys/girls varsity and middle school coaches and their staffs.  Additionally, Tex Preps concentrates its circulation efforts on high school principals, athletic directors and basketball booster clubs.  The magazine is also building high awareness at the school district level among athletic directors and superintendents.

Unique Editorial:
Tex Preps Basketball Magazine is the collaborative effort of hundreds of Texas high school boys/girls coaches who have submitted their varsity player information and predictions for district champions and the Top 50 high school basketball players for this year.  Therefore, the magazine contains thousands of player and coaches names – a commemorative publication for the Texas boys/girls varsity basketball participant, their families and friends.

Advertising Media Opportunities:
Tex Preps Basketball Magazine is published annually with a July 1 close, prior to the late-September release date each fall.  Our multimedia platform of magazine print advertising, web banner opportunities on the companion web site: www.texprepsbasketball.com and audio podcast sponsorships provides a potent media package to deliver your advertising message to Texas high school coaches, principals, athletic directors and school district decision makers, plus the boys/girls basketball players and their basketball booster clubs.
